Shakespeare Festival - Budapest

(8 days /7 nights in Budapest)

24th of May (Tuesday)

      Arriving at the Liszt Ferenc international airport in Budapest we have arranged your transfer to your four stars luxury hotel on the famous Andrássy Avenue. The Hotel Moment will be open from the beginning of 2016. It will be a short walk from the State Opera House.

      Before dinner we have arranged an exclusive private guided tour to the Hungarian State Opera House not available for the general public and hosted by one of the singers of the Shakespeare400+ Festival. Champagne will be chilled and served!

      For dinner we invite you to the Callas restaurant and Café on elegant Andrássy Street, located right next to the State Opera House. The restaurant was redesigned in art deco style by the world famous architect, David Collin. The building is a national monument today. The menu is an international culinary experience with plenty of traditional Hungarian courses to choose from too.

      Verdi’s opera, Otello (In two parts, four acts, in Italian, with Hungarian and English subtitles), will be performed at the State Opera House 7:00 P.M. During intermission enjoy complimentary refreshments and coffee. Transportation to the Opera House and back to your hotel will be provided.


25th of May (Wednesday)

(No lunch/ dinner or other programs are scheduled but we are more than happy to arrange any of them for you.)

      At 11:00 A.M. at the Erkel Theatre Otto Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor is optional. (Singspiel in three acts, two parts in Hungarian)

      At 7:00 P.M. we will take you to Thomas Adés’s Opera, The Tempest to the State Opera House. (Opera in three acts in English, with Hungarian and English subtitles.) During intermission enjoy complimentary refreshments and coffee. Transportation to back to your hotel will be provided.


26th of May (Thursday)

      You will have the pleasure to enjoy the view of Budapest from the Danube. We will take you to a private boat tour with gypsy music where your lunch will be served.

      Dinner will be in the heart of Budapest at the Rézkakas Bistro at 5:00 P.M. In addition to the fine cuisine, it offers a wide variety of the best wines of Hungary.

      After dinner we will take you to the State Opera House for an unforgettable opera performance of Verdi’s opera, Macbeth. (Opera in four acts) Transportation to back to your hotel will be provided.


27th of May (Friday)

From 9:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. you will go on the Liberty walking tour. On this tour you will visit Budapest’s largest indoor market where you can find a variety of local foods on the first floor, and on the second plenty of vendors selling souvenirs. From here our Liberty Walk leads us through the fashionable Váci Street where you can find well-known brands along with Hungarian souvenir shops. Our next stop will be Széchényi Square. There you will see the neoclassical Gresham Palace, which became the Four Seasons Hotel in 2001. Then we will continue our tour to Szabadság Square where you will see the beautiful Liberty building and the Hungarian National Bank. On the square you will also find the Soviet Monument from WWII, the U.S. Embassy Building and the impressive former Stock Exchange.

      Dinner will be one of the restaurants close to the Music Academy.

    At 7:00 P.M. you will be taken to the newly renovated Music Academy where you will see the concert performance of Britten’s opera, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Transportation to back to your hotel will be provided.


28th of May (Saturday)

      From 9:00 am-1:00 pm you will visit the lovely Royal Castle of Gödöllő, which is one of the most important, largest monuments of Hungarian palace architecture. It was also the favorite palace of the Empress Elisabeth. You will be accompanied by an English speaking tour guide. Lunch will be at Borlabor restaurant which is famous for its Hungarian wine selection.

      In the evening you will be taken to the Erkel Theatre to see the concert performance of Gounod’s opera, Romeo and Juliet. Transportation to back to your hotel will be provided.


29th of May (Sunday)

      Enjoy your free day in Budapest with shopping or visiting one of museums of the city! We are happy to recommend programs for you!

      Dinner will be at the private room of one of the oldest restaurants of the Castle District, the Alabárdos restaurant.

      At 7:00 P.M. we are taking you for the premiere to the State Opera House for Aribert Reimann’s opera, Lear. Transportation to back to your hotel will be provided. (Opera in two acts in German, with Hungarian and English subtitles Hungarian.)


30th of May (Monday)

      During the morning you will explore the countryside of Hungary. The Varga Tanya is located south of Budapest, on several acres of stunning forest park. A welcome drink will be followed by a cart-tour to the nearby puszta. The visit includes a functioning homestead where we will taste local wines. We will enjoy the Horse show with presentation of the pony-cart, coach-and-three, donkey-cart, and coach- and-four rides. What could be better to end the program then a traditional country lunch? A three-course meal will be served in an intimate and rustic restaurant. During the meal, gypsy music guarantees a very good time. We will return to Budapest in the afternoon.

      Our cultural adventure will end in Hungary with the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra concert 7:00 P.M. at State Opera House. During intermission enjoy complimentary champagne and coffee. Transportation to back to your hotel will be provided.


31st of May (Tuesday)

      Transportation will be provided from the hotel to the Liszt Ferenc international airport or to the local train station for those wishing to travel on to Vienna or other nearby cities.
